On this website you will see examples of my current work, specialising in transport art, mostly but not exclusively trucks, as I have always been fascinated by machines that move.
WHO AM I?
My name is Bernard Clifton and I live in the Hawkesbury region NW of Sydney, NSW. For the past 40 years I have interested myself in transport machinery and issues and have accumulated a large library of especially road and rail reference materials. I also have a photo library of @ 15 gig of memory and albums dating from the early 1970s which I use for reference. Associated with this fascination, I have sketched and drawn mostly trucks since I was a teenager as a complement to my interest in art in general.
As a young man I drove trucks fulltime and parttime for 8 years . The smell of diesel in my veins has never left me since. Does this make me a tragic?
I prefer to work to commission/ special orders as I enjoy painting portraits of people's 'pride and joy' - their trucks, cars, bikes, tractors etc. - their classic machines, their customised machines.
I generally work from photos taken by me of the subject where I can get detailed images as well as placing the the subject/vehicle in an appropriate context for the portrait. Where this is not possible I work from photos sent in by the client. I also like to talk to the client to obtain an idea of how they would like their vehicle portrayed
My Transport Artworks are done on either canvas, stretched canvas, canson paper or acid-free drawing paper, depending on the medium used and/or size of artwork.
As I prefer each portrait to be unique, I don't do prints of commissioned paintings. BUT
Prints are available of uncommissioned paintings from $25 plus Postage & Handling.
Where possible, I also prefer to present the final artwork professionally framed and under glass.
